Summer Stains & How to Remove Them

Summer is the season of fun—picnics, barbecues, beach days, and outdoor adventures. But it’s also the season of stains. From grass and ketchup to sunscreen and sweat, warm-weather messes can be tough on your clothes. The good news? Most summer stains can be tackled with the right approach.

Here are common stains and tips to get rid of them:

·         Grass Stains

Grass stains are protein-based and cling to cotton and denim. Pre-treat with a stain remover or a mix of baking soda and water. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then wash it in cold water. Avoid hot water, it can set the stain.

·         Sunscreen

Sunscreen can leave oily or yellowish stains on clothes. Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch on the spot to absorb oil, then blot with dish soap before washing. For stubborn spots, use white vinegar and let it soak.

·         Ice Cream & Popsicles

These sugary stains need quick attention. Rinse with cold water, then treat with liquid laundry detergent or a stain remover before washing. Avoid hot water, it can cook the sugar into the fabric.

·         Ketchup & Mustard

Scrape off excess sauce, then run cold water through the back of the stain. Use a mix of dish soap and white vinegar, then launder as usual. Mustard may require repeat treatment due to turmeric.

·         Sweat Stains

Sweat can cause yellowing on light-colored clothes. Mix baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and a bit of water into a paste. Apply to the stain, let sit for 30 minutes, then wash.

Tip: Always check the stain before putting clothes in the dryer. Heat can permanently set it. With a little care and quick action, you can keep your summer wardrobe looking its best!
