Common Odors and Removal Solutions
Odors from SweatTools Needed:
Baking soda
Wash tub or sink
Lukewarm waterProcess: Mix two cups of baking soda in a wash tub/sink of lukewarm water. Add the items to the tub and let them soak for at least 24 hours. Then launder the items as directed.
Underarm OdorsTools Needed:
White distilled vinegar
Water
Soft-bristled brush or old toothbrushProcess: Step 1 - Mix together a one-to-one solution of vinegar and water. Using a brush scrub the armpit area of the shirt thoroughly. Step 2 – Fill a wash tub or sink with cool water and add one cup of vinegar. Add the item and allow it to soak for 30 minutes. Then launder the item as usual.
Gasoline OdorsTools Needed:
Enzyme-based stain remover or heavy-duty liquid laundry detergent
Baking soda
Cool waterProcess: Begin by using the stain remover or laundry detergent to pretreat. Work the remover/detergent into the fabric with your fingers for at least 15 minutes. For seriously stubborn gas odor, soak the item in a tub filled with cool water and one cup of baking soda for at least 4 hours or overnight. Launder as usual.
Mildew OdorsTools:
White distilled vinegar
Baking soda
Warm water
Spray bottleProcess: Fill the spray bottle with the vinegar and spray the item completely. Let it sit for about 30 minutes. Fill a tub or sink with warm water and add a half cup of baking soda. Add the item and soak for about 30 minutes. Remove and launder as usual.
